On Friday 29th BNRC held its annual Charity Golf Day at Knighton Heath Golf Club.
Being the day of the National Coffee Morning Day for Macmillan Caring they were named as one of the two principal Charities for the event, the other being BCHA (Bournemouth Church Housing Association).
The course was in great shape, the weather behaved itself and everyone had a great day.
Fifteen teams entered including members from many local Golf Clubs including Parkstone, Ferndown, Knighton Heath, Meyrick Park and Crane Valley together with other regular players. We also had a very welcome entry from a local school – Glenmoor & Winton Academy.
Following a warming cup of coffee and a bacon roll all teams got away on time under the watchful eye of Starter Rotarian Dennis Gritt and everyone said what an enjoyable round they had and how well the course played.
After the event all players and helpers enjoyed a two course meal with a little refreshment from the bar (mostly tea, coffee and soft drinks of course) followed by an auction of items donated by local businesses and neighbouring Golf Clubs, the profits from which went into the charity fund for the day.
Amongst the many items donated were some wonderful items donated by Bournemouth’s very own Ladies
International Golf Star Georgia Hall who was unfortunately unable to attend due to her busy schedule on the Ladies European Tour. Bournemouth North Rotary has had the pleasure of supporting the golfing talents of Georgia since her school days and she has always supported our events whenever possible. (See separate blog below).
Having recently represented Europe at the Solheim Cup in the United States, Georgia kindly donated one of the Shirts that she wore there, a club head cover and a sun visor together with a number of balls all from the Solheim Cup personally autographed. Needless to say these were all in great demand in the auction.
After all score cards had been carefully checked by our scrutineers Jenny Jefferies and Ann Smith, the team from Glenmoor & Winton Academy were declared the overall winners – namely Teacher Leon Lima and the three students – Sasha Trickett and
brothers Cameron and Kieran Laird.
Also teacher Leon Lima won the longest drive and nearest the pin prizes.
The Ladies prize went to Sally Brown, Hazel Bayliss and Sue Dean – all members of Parkstone Golf Club.
Prizes were presented to the winning teams by Mathew Moore, Senior Partner of GALES SOLICITORS, the events main sponsor. Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin prizes were presented by John Slade, Senior Partner from sponsors SLADE’S ESTATE AGENTS.
Other Sponsors included Stour Park Residential Homes (www.stourpark.co.uk) and The Canvas Loft Bar Nightclub in Bournemouth (www.canvasbournemouth.com)
The trophies were kindly supplied by Rotarian Stan Webb.
Event organiser Rotarian Malcolm Jefferies thanked everyone for taking part, all of the Sponsors, the staff at Knighton Heath Golf Club and fellow Rotarians who helped on the day and announced that a net profit of £2,700 was reached all of which will be donated to the Principal Charities and other local organisations in our area.
